Originally from Florida, John moved to Honolulu in 1974. He worked as an artist for the advertising industry until 1987 when he decided to pursue a cartooning career. In 1988, John was a student of world-renowned cartoonist and caricaturist, Ranan Lurie, in New York. Back in Hawaii, Pritchett found a home at Honolulu Weekly where he provided a weekly cartoon from 1993 to June 5, 2013. During this time John was honored with awards from: The United Nations Correspondents Association, Hawaii Publishers Association, The Hawaii Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists, Common Cause Hawaii, Small Business Hawaii and Hawaii's Thousand Friends. On Maui, Pritchett's cartoons were published in Lahaina News. At the end of 2010, John's color cartoons were featured in Hawaii Reporter where earned the first place editorial cartoon award from the Soceity of Professional Journalists, Hawaii Chapter for 2011. John has also provided illustrations and cartoons on environmental issues to Environment Hawaii. When Honolulu Weekly folded, after 20 years, John signed a contract with Honolulu Civil Beat. For Pritchett Civil Beat cartoons published in 2013, John won third place in the Best of the West Journalism Competition. May 2014 John moved his cartoons to MidWeek, a weekly newspaper with the largest print circulation in the state of Hawaii. June 14, 2020, Pritchett left MidWeek and moved back to Honolulu Civil Beat where his cartoons were featured through 2024. Published books on local politics include, "Drawn & Quartered," "The Unbelievable Empire," "Jeremy's World Comics" and the online edition of "Rail, Honolulu's Big Mistake." In 2019, Pritchett published a book of his cartoons, "Pritchett Cartoons - Collection" available at the Hawaii state Library. John also published a book about his past adventure sailing and scuba diving in the Coral Sea. The Adventure, A True South Pacific Story Available at Barnes & Nobel.
