b'As if the state of Hawaii didnt have more pressing issues to deal with, state Representative Darius Kila (D, Nanakuli-Maili) introduced House Bill 957 creating Lau Lau Day! The senate quickly jumped on board with a companion bill,SB 1101. The original bill would have made Lau Lau Day a paid state holiday, costing the state considerable money in lost productivity. But, with so many paid state holidays already on the books, Governor Green quickly nixed that idea and Lau Lau Day would be more of just a symbolic day, recognizing Hawaiian culture and ethnic food. But why stop there? Why not Adobo Day and Shave Ice Day?! Sorry, there already is a Kim Chee Day. 21'
